800 trees planted in Kobanê on the occasion of Öcalan’s birthday

On the occasion of 4 April, the birthday of Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan, 800 trees were planted in the city of Kobanê in the autonomous region of North and East Syria.

ÖCALAN'S BIRTHDAY

Abdullah Öcalan was born on 4 April 1949 in the village of Amara in Halfeti district of Urfa in Northern Kurdistan.

The Kurdish leader is waging a unique struggle against fascism in prison on İmralı Island despite the harsh conditions of isolation.

On the occasion of Öcalan’s birthday, the Euphrates Canton Environmental Council planted 800 trees in the village of Sisek, west of Kobanê.

Abdullah Öcalan, Ömer Hayri Konar, Hamili Yıldırım and Veysi Aktaş, who are held in İmralı F Type High Security Prison, have been subjected to denial of meeting with their families and lawyers and contact with the outside world for the last 3 years.

From 27 July 2011 to date, only lawyers were able to meet with Öcalan between May and August 2019. The last of these five meetings was on 7 August 2019. Only 5 family visits have been granted since 2014. The last face-to-face meeting was with Öcalan's brother was on 3 March 2020. Öcalan has only been able to make two phone calls since the first day, on 27 April 2020 and 25 March 2021.

The last phone call on 25 March 2021 was interrupted after a very short time and there has been no news from him since that day.
