Voting has started in 22 constituencies for the second round of the 12th parliamentary elections in Iran. Electronic ballot boxes are being used in 8 cities in the country, including Tehran.
The voting started as of 08.00 local time at the polling stations established in 11,500 centres. 90 candidates are competing for 45 seats in the second round of the elections held on 1 March.
Iran's religious leader Ayatollah Khamenei cast his vote in the electronic ballot box set up in the hall in the Imam Khomeini Khosseini Hosseiniya in Tehran.
In the first round, the turnout rate was 41 percent, and the elections were marked by boycott and apathy. In the parliamentary elections, 245 of the candidates competing for 290 seats were entitled to enter the Parliament. In the second round, the race for 45 seats continues.
