The Kurdish people have been under oppression by the occupying forces for years. Amazigh people are experiencing a similar situation. Both peoples have been waging a unique struggle for the cause of freedom for many years.
Abdullah Öcalan Academy of Social Sciences organized a panel via Zoom with the participation of Kurdish and Amazigh intellectuals. The panel included Evînda Mustefa, a member of the Abdullah Öcalan Academy of Social Sciences, writer Ebdulwehab Bîranî, PYD co-chair Salih Müslim, Leyla Saroxan from the Autonomous Administration of Northern and Eastern Syria, Dr. Kamîran Berwarî, a member of the Academy of Social Sciences and also a member of the KNK and Kurdish politician Muhmed Şêxo, from the Kurdish side, and writer-researcher Akli Chekka, Amazigh International Congress representative in Egypt Amanî El-Waşahî, Libo Party President Fethî Xelîfe, former Amazigh International Congress President Abdullah Boutanî, Amazigh activist Magdy Bouhna from the Amazigh side. Activist and Egyptian political researcher Dr. Taha Ali also attended the panel.
Emanî El-Waşahî stated that both the Amazigh people and the Kurdish people have put up a great struggle and added: "We are going through a very important phase, so no matter what happens, the people are standing, continuing their struggle and raising the flag of rebellion."
The Kurdish and the Amazigh people have always undertaken the role of protecting their own culture, said Waşahî, adding that both people want to live freely.
Ebdulwehab Birani said: “People are still paying the price for living as a democratic nation. It is necessary to work so that all the people of the region can live together. This idea is the work of Abdullah Öcalan, who has been in prison for 25 years. He is fighting not only for the Kurds, but for all the people of the world."
Need for a joint struggle
Fethî Xelîfe pointed out that Kurds and Amazighs should wage a common struggle.
PYD co-chair Salih Müslim said that the Kurdish people, their parties and intellectuals do not know the Amazigh history and the current reality of the Amazigh people very well. Salih Muslim stated that it is important to establish institutions and organizations that will develop solidarity and cooperation between the Kurdish and Amazigh people.
