Motion in support of hunger strikers passed at Die Linke Congress

Die Linke Bremen Congress supports hunger strikers.

The motion tabled by Die Linke candidate Mazlum Koç about the hunger strike resistance was approved by the congress.

German Left Party Die Linke held a preliminary congress in Bremen before the parliamentary and municipal elections on 26 May. Candidate to the German Parliament Bundestag, Mazlum Koç, had submitted a motion to congress about the hunger strike demanding the end of isolation against Öcalan.

Mazlum Koç, who is also a provincial executive in Bremen Die Linke, underlined the illegality of the isolation of Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan, and informed delegates and party members about the hunger strike resistance.

The candidate reminded that his father, Yüksel Koç, is one of the 14 Kurdish activists on hunger strike in Strasbourg and added that the congress should endorse the motion. Indeed the motion was passed.

Solidarity message to political prisoners

The congress was attended by Bremen State co-chairs Felix Pithan and Conny Barth, as well as many party executives.

The congress final declaration expressed support to the hunger strikers.

The declaration stated: The main demand of the hunger strikes led by Leyla Güven, to end isolation, is our demand. The health condition of the activists on hunger strike has reached a dangerous stage. Die Linke will make all attempts to remove the isolation. Isolation on all political prisoners, including Mr. Abdullah Öcalan, is a violation of human rights and freedom.

Bremen Die Linke expressed its solidarity with MPs, mayors and political prisoners unjustly and unlawfully held in jail. We demand the immediate release of the elected representatives and political prisoners.”
