YPG: Goktepe and Goçekmen villages liberated

Clashes between ISIS gangs and YPG/YPJ (People's/Women's Defense Units) are continuing in Kobanê and Cizîrê cantons of Rojava, West Kurdistan. Two more villages have been liberated yesterday.

CIZÎRÊ

The statement said that heavy fighting that followed the ISIS attacks on the western boundaries of the Cizîrê Canton on 23 February were continuing ceaselessly. Defense Units have greatly repelled the ongoing attacks of gangs aiming to take the strategic Xerîta bridge between Hasekê and Til Temir. 10 members of the gang groups were verified killed in the fighting in Xerîta area throughout yesterday. Bodies of 26 ISIS members as well as large quantities of ammunition were also seized.

KOBANÊ

Recalling that the Kobanê resistance against the occupation attempt of ISIS gangs continued on the 208th day, YPG Press Centre said that the operation started by Defense Units in the southeast of Kobanê on April 8 continued.

The villages of Goktepe and Goçekmen were cleansed of gang groups and liberated during the operation yesterday. After the liberation of the villages, gangs attempted two suicide attacks with bomb-laden vehicles in Goktepe village. Both of the bomb-laden vehicles, as well as 2 others that attempted to enter the area during clashes that followed, were destroyed with militants inside them.

7 gang members were killed and munitions belonging to the gangs were seized in the fighting in this region.

YPG Press Centre added that 2 other gang members were killed in an attack in which Defense Units targeted the gang groups on Qertel hill to the southeast of Kobanê yesterday evening.
