Làbas in Bologna promoted a two-day initiative dedicated to fundraising for the Nuovo Cinema Amude project, a project that aims to rebuild the cinema in the city of Amude (Rojava).
On the first day, a panel discussion was held, moderated by Yabasta Bologna, focused on the recent ruling by the Permanent Peoples’ Tribunal in the case of Rojava vs. Turkey. The discussion featured guest speaker, lawyer Barbara Spinelli, and judge Giacinto Bisogni, who joined remotely. Both contributed significantly to helping the audience understand the scope and implications of the ruling, as well as the importance of discussing and spreading awareness of its content.
Following the panel, the Kurdish community hosted a traditional dinner, with all proceeds going toward the cinema project.
The second day featured the screening of the documentary Naharina, attended by its director Ferran Domenech and a representative from OpenDDB. The post-screening discussion was particularly engaging, with a mostly young audience posing thoughtful questions to the director about the themes explored in the film.
A special moment on the first day was the arrival of a delegation of Palestinian children from the Shatila refugee camp in Lebanon, who were warmly welcomed with a round of applause from attendees. The following day, the children participated in the anti-racist sports event No Border Cup and were also received at Bologna City Hall.
The organizers of the initiative said: "We hope these events help raising awareness among those present about the Kurdish struggle and the importance of supporting it, and that they serve as a stepping stone for organizing more events to support Nuovo Cinema Amude."
