Victims of the Armenian genocide were commemorated at the Du Deng cave in the village of Yeniköy in Amed's Çüngüş district into which they were thrown 100 years ago.

The commemoration outside the cave, which witnessed one of the major mass killings in the Armenian Genocide, was organised by IHD (Human Rights Association) and Gomidas Institute and attended by HDP deputy Nursel Aydoğan, HDP deputy candidate Adayı Sibel Yiğitalp, İHD Amed Branch Chair Raci Bilici, Gomidas Institute President Ara Sarrafyan, and Armenians from America, Holland, England, Canada and France.

Speaking outside the cave which astonished many participants with its great depth, an Armenian citizen from Amed, Gafur Türkay, who had difficulty in expressing his feelings, said that; "A genocide was perpetrated in this entire region and entire Turkey. Hundreds of people massacred in the genocide were brought here and thrown into the Du Deng cave. There are grave stories about them. It is told that the local people in this region also jumped into the cave to seize the golden property of the Armenians they were supposedly wearing when massacred. It is told that no single person was able to get out the cave back. We don't want this pain to be repeated again."

Following speeches, the group left carnations outside the cave in memory of the victims, as the ceremony ended with laments in Armenian.
