The third group has taken over the indefinite-alternate hunger strike started by the families and politicians in Amed in support of the indefinite irreversible hunger strike in prisons that has reached day 59 in Şakran.

The hunger strike continues in the Vedat Aydın Conference Hall in DBP Amed office and has been taken over by a 20-person group consisting of families and DBP, HDP, TJA and DTK members.

Among the incoming hunger strikers are HDP Amed MP Sibel Yiğitalp, DBP Co-vice chair Ramazan Tunç, Yenişehir Co-mayor Ülkü Baytaş and families of prisoners and representatives of institutions.

Hüseyin Barış spoke in the name of the families, stating that they support the will presented by the prisoners completely, and said: “Sitting at home in silence means being complicit in deaths. So, all should do whatever they can.”

HDP Amed MP Sibel Yiğitalp said this was a dark time and great destruction was happening in the region, and continued: “We don’t even want to think about what practices there may be in prisons while there is so much injustice on the outside. The malpractices imposed upon the prisoners are reminiscent of the Esat Oktay Yıldıran era practices in the Diyarbakır Prison. The demands of the prisoners are our demands. Like the state failed to achieve results through tearing down people’s homes and carrying out massacres, they won’t achieve results against the prisoners’ resistance either. The State of Emergency and the isolation are expanding every day. The AKP should stop these practices at once. But we say this once more, they won’t achieve any results through injustice, attacks and destruction. The Minister of Justice and the AKP are responsible for any and all negative outcomes in prisons.”

After speeches, the third group took over the hunger strike with slogans of “The prisoners are our honor”.
