Prisoners in Van face "Öcalan" censorship

It came out that Öcalan-related and anti-Erdoğan news articles are cut out of the newspapers that are handed out to prisoners in Van T Type Prison.

Turkish newspaper Özgürlükcü Demokrasi (Libertarian Democracy) is not handed out to prisoners in Van T Type Prison for weeks on the grounds that it spreads “terrorist propaganda”.

As to the newspapers that the prisoners are allowed access to, the prison authorities implement censorship on the news articles about Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan. These articles are cut out with scissors and Öcalan's photographs are scribbled.

CRITICIZING ERDOGAN IS FORBIDDEN

The news articles that express criticism at Turkish President and AKP Leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan are cut out as well, with the explanation that they "insult the country's great ones".

On the other hand, the books brought to the prisoners by their families are not accepted on the grounds of State of Emergency, and books published by Aram Press are sent back.

VISITS RECORDED ON CAMERA

Many prisoners refuse to see their lawyers because the prison authority insist on recording them on camera during visits.
