A 12 year-old boy was wounded in the leg as police in Yüksekova district of Hakkari province opened fire with rubber bullets in Cengiz Topel Street at the town centre for no reason, despite there being no demos or events taking place.

The police teams deployed with armoured vehicles on Cengiz Topel Street of Yüksekova today suddenly opened fire with rubber bullets on a group of young people passing by them.

As the youths responded by throwing stones, the police fired gas canisters at the group. Additional police were deployed to the street after a clash broke out. The new teams arriving the scene opened fire in the air with live bullets, wounding a 12-year-old boy. Police took the wounded boy away from the scene in an armoured vehicle and detained another from the group.

While the clash between youths and police is continuing, shopkeepers have closed heir shops in protest against the increasingly ongoing police attack and violence against civilians.
