PKK Congress obstructed by Erdoğan

It has been reported that the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) who has been making preparations to hold a congress for ending the armed struggle against Turkey at least has given up the idea. The PKK is said to have abandoned this consideration following the remarks of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan who ignored the Dolmabahçe Agreement, a joint declaration made by İmralı delegation of HDP and state, and said ;“There is no Kurdish question, arguing which is a discrimination and separatism.”

The outstanding claim has been made by Muzaffer Ayata, a writer for Özgür Gündem daily. Ayata who remained jailed in Turkey for nearly 20 within a case against PKK, later went to the Europe after finding no possibility to continue political life in Turkey.

Ayata claimed in his today's column that the PKK which had been making preparations to hold a congress on ending the armed struggle against Turkey, in line with the call Öcalan made on March 21, has abandoned this consideration following the recent remarks of Erdoğan.

Ayata stressed in his column that the executive board of the PKK has been forced to make a new assessment after Erdoğan's recent statements such as “There is no Kurdish question. I am against the Dolmabahçe agreement. There is no negotiation table in question. Arguing the presence of two sides would destroy the state.”

Remarking that preparations for the congress have been given up as a result of this re-evaluation, Ayata highlighted that besides Erdoğan's statements, the AKP government's imposition of a new kind of isolation on PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan has also had an influence on this new decision made by the PKK.

He stressed that; “Pro-peace and pro-democracy forces should know that Erdoğan has directly obstructed the gathering of the congress by the PKK”.
