Prior to a press statement on Kurdish national unity planned to be held in Batman tomorrow, administrators of the Democratic Society Congress (DTK), Free Women's Movement (TJA), Democratic Regions Party (DBP) and the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP), continued to carry out their activities today.

DTK Co-chair Berdan Öztürk, TJA activists, DBP co-chairs Saliha Aydeniz and Keskin Bayındır, HDP deputies Sezai Temelli, Mehmet Rüştü Tiryaki, İmam Taşçıer, Dersim Dağ, Ayşe Acar Başaran, Necdet İpekyüz and members of HDP’'s Youth Councils took part in the activities.

VISIT TO FAMILIES

Politicians started their talks in the morning by visiting the members of the Peace Mothers Assembly and the Association for Solidarity with Families Who Lost Their Relatives in the Cradle of Civilizations (MEBYA-DER).

Speaking during the visit, DBP Co-Chair Aydeniz stated that the Peace Mothers have played a historic role with the struggle they have carried out so far.

CALL FOR 'NATIONAL UNITY'

Aydeniz asked the Peace Mothers to support national unity efforts and stated that if the mothers both support their unity efforts and embrace the indefinite-alternating hunger strikes launched in Turkey’s prisons to end the isolation on Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan, the conspiracies over the Kurdish people will be more easily eliminated. Members of the Peace Mothers' Assembly expressed their support for this call.

POLICE THREAT DID NOT WORK

HDP MPs Sezai Temelli, Rüştü Tiryaki, İmam Taşçıer and Necdet İpekyüz met with Batman representatives of the parties in the Kurdish alliance. Speaking at the HDP provincial organization building, MP Taşçıer emphasized that Kurdish national unity has become necessary. Reminding the calls for national unity made by KDP President Masoud Barzani and Öcalan in 2013, Taşçıer highlighted the need for joint work in order for the unity to become permanent in every field.

Other political party representatives stated that they would support this work on national unity.

The members of the delegation came to the HDP central district organization building after these meetings. Due to the intense interest of the people of the city, the party building was blockaded by the police who prevented entries.

While going out of the building to visit tradesmen in the city center, members of the delegation and party members were prevented with the barricade set up by the police with shields. Despite the talks with the police officials, when the blockade was not lifted. While the members of the delegation and the party members tried to overcome the barricade, a quarrel with the police ensued. The group still crossed the barricade and reached the main street.

The delegation went to the street with dozens of people and started visiting tradesmen. Ignoring the threats made by the police using a megaphone, the delegation visited the tradesmen in Gülistan and Diyarbakır streets and Elma Street and invited them to a press release in Atatürk Park tomorrow. Tradesmen supported the delegation members with applause during their visit.

While the delegation continued its march on the streets, the police intervened and threatened to take them into custody. The delegation continued on its way despite these threats and ended its march near the HDP provincial organization building.

The delegation will conclude its work in the city with a press release to be held in Atatürk Park tomorrow.
