Man deported from Hewler released from custody

Hasan Kaçar, who was detained for protesting his deportation from Hewler by the ruling Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) security forces outside the UN office in Sulaymaniyah, South Kurdistan, has been released.

Hasan Kaçar, who was deported by KDP forces from Hewler (Erbil) on November 23, was detained on December 1 during a protest he staged in front of the UN office in Sulaymaniyah city.

Kaçar has been released Thursday afternoon after being held overnight in the Sulaymaniyah Local Security Forces (Asayish).

Hasan Kaçar from North Kurdistan (south-eastern Turkey) was deported together with his wife and two kids by the KDP Hewler asayish on November 23.

The Kaçar family set up a tent outside the UN office in Sulaymaniyah to protest the mistreatment they were subjected to.

Kaçar was jailed by the Turkish state for 12 years and was released along with 20 other political prisoners in 2014 because of his chronic illness following a call of Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan.
