In a press conference KIU spokesperson Hadi Ali, declared that his party will stay within the KRG after the widespread protests in Southern Kurdistan. Instead of leaving KRG the party decided to give an ultimatum to Kurdistan Democratic Party and Patriotic Union of Kurdistan.

“During this period, a KIU delegation will hand a petition to the government concerning the demands of the people and urge it to immediately make serious decisions” Ali said.

About the recent protests in Kurdistan region Ali added: “The meeting called for the formation of a committee in the Kurdistan parliament to investigate and follow up on the events of the past few days in the towns and cities of the Kurdistan Region in which unfortunately the direction of peaceful and civil protests were derailed resulting in many unwanted and heartbreaking incidents,”

Ali also urged KRG to respond to the “rightful demands of the protests by providing salaries on time and improving the living conditions and services in general.

Opposite to Goran and Kurdistan Islamic Society, KIU has developed strong ties with KDP and PUK in recent years.

Goran and Kurdistan Islamic Society left the government after the recent protests.
