Ali Sharif Zade Erkani, the lawyer of Kurdish actress Shohra Qemer, announced that a Tehran court had sentenced his client to prison.
Lawyer Ali Sharif Zade Erkani announced that Shohra Qemer, who was born in Sine (Sanandaj) and lives in Tehran, was sentenced to 4 years and 8 months in prison by the Tehran Revolutionary Court on April 13.
The Kurdish actress was sentenced for “supporting Israel, spreading false information in support of the ‘Jin, Jiyan, Azadi’ [Woman, Life, Freedom] revolution and disrupting national security,” an arbitrary charge against dissidents and activists. Lawyer Ali Sharif Zade Erkani stated that they appealed the verdict.
Shohra Qemer was arrested on August 5, 2023 by Iranian intelligence forces without any official decision.
After 45 days in the notoriously torturous Evin Prison, the actress was released on bail. Previously, she had been sentenced to 15 months in prison on charges of supporting the 'Jin, Jiyan, Azadi' popular uprising.
