Mazyar Tatayi, the lawyer of Kurdish political prisoner Pakshan Azizi, announced on his social media account that the request for a retrial had been rejected for the second time.

Tatayi stated that the Iranian court dismissed the lawyers’ defense as 'inappropriate' without even reviewing Pakshan Azizi’s case file and rejected the request for a new trial.

Who is Pakshan Azizi?

Kurdish journalist and activist Pakshan Azizi was detained in Tehran on 4 August 2023. She was formally arrested on 11 November 2023 on charges of “armed action against the Iranian government.” On 23 July 2024, the Tehran Revolutionary Court sentenced her to death. The sentence was upheld by the Iranian High Judicial Council on 8 January 2025.
