DEM Party Spokesperson Ayşegül Doğan stated that they will be in Sulaymaniyah on July 11 to follow the guerrilla disarmament ceremony.
Ayşegül Doğan, spokesperson for the People's Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party), held a press conference at the party's headquarters regarding Abdullah Öcalan’s call on Wednesday and recent developments.
Remarking that Turkey is at a historic turning point, Ayşegül Doğan said: "We are the ones who aspire to write this history. We are not merely witnesses to this process, which also carries very vital responsibilities as we are talking about human life. This week, we saw once again that the issue we are discussing is very important. We are moving toward a more important stage in achieving non-conflict and the possibility of ending the war.
Everyone has a responsibility. Today, for the first time in 26 years, we saw a video of Mr. Öcalan from Imrali. There are also statements and messages coming in. The world is also following closely. It means that Turkey's Kurdish question, Turkey's democracy issue, is not just Turkey's problem. We are talking about an issue that is not limited to Turkey, but is also an international issue, both in terms of its regional implications and the effects it will have on the world. That is why we would like to emphasize that we are at a very historic crossroads.
For years, we have said that the address for a democratic solution, peace, and an equal, just, honorable, and lasting peace is Imralı, Mr. Öcalan. Today, this must be seen once again. That is our hope.”
Remarking that Öcalan wants all weapons to be completely silenced, Doğan said, "This effort and struggle has been going on for decades. Although this voice has not resonated strongly due to the circumstances, I would like to remind everyone that the point we have reached today is the result of decades of effort, hard work, and dedication. In 1993, this process was left unfinished, but today we are speaking of a new chapter aimed at expanding the political arena and completely silencing the weapons. This time, it must not remain unfinished."
Highlighting the need for the grounds of democratic politics to be expanded, Doğan continued: "The law is our common guarantee and need. Therefore, the law and guarantees related to the law must be implemented as soon as possible, without any political calculations. This is to reveal a truth, to reveal a need. For this, all political parties, whether they are in Parliament or not, whether they have a group or not, must take responsibility. They must set aside their ideological differences and take responsibility for the democratic resolution of Turkey's fundamental Kurdish question and the democratization of Turkey."
Ayşegül Doğan stated that the DEM Party, as well as the co-chairs and representatives of the constituent parties, will attend the guerrilla disarmament ceremony to be held in Sulaymaniyah on July 11.
The DEM Party Spokesperson added that all segments of society must act with the same sensitivity fort he resolution of the Kurdish question.
