Women in Batman celebrate Öcalan’s birthday: Our struggle is just beginning

Planting saplings to celebrate Öcalan’s 76th birthday, women said “Our struggle is just beginning. A great responsibility awaits women to crown the process with peace.”

Women organized a sapling-planting event in Batman to celebrate the 76th birthday of Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan, who has been incarcerated in İmralı Island Prison in Turkey since 1999.

The event, organized by the Free Women's Movement (Tevgera Jinên Azad-TJA) in the rural area of Awiskê town in Beşiri (Qubîn) district, was attended by many women, including Peace Mothers, Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) and Democratic Regions Party (DBP) executives.

Speaking here, TJA member Nurten Üzümcü stated that a historic process has begun in Turkey following Öcalan’s ‘Call for Peace and Democratic Society’ on February 27.

Üzümcü continued: “The call made by Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan has brought the process to this stage.  Our biggest responsibility is to embrace this process. We must come together, get organized and keep this process going. Our struggle is just beginning. A great responsibility awaits women to crown the process with peace and to respond to social issues. We will act with this consciousness and responsibility until the process reaches its goal. We will carry through the women's liberation struggle, which Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan calls 'My unfinished philosophy'.”
