KDP sets up checkpoint after attack on guerrillas

Two weeks ago, three guerrilla fighters were seriously injured in an attack by a KDP unit in northeastern Duhok. The KDP is now setting up a checkpoint at the site of the attack.

On December 13, KDP units in northeastern Duhok blocked the path of a guerrilla car on the road between the villages of Kanê and Dêreşê. When the vehicle tried to turn back, it was subjected to continuous fire, and three members of the guerrillas were injured.

In order to cover up the attack on the guerrillas, the KDP claimed that there was a checkpoint at the site of the incident. Based on the footage released later, it turned out that this claim was not true. There was no checkpoint and the guerrillas were attacked by KDP forces without cause.

However, since December 23, a checkpoint has been established at this location. The HPG and guerrilla commander Bawer Dersim have stated that the road has been used by the guerrillas for decades. The fact that the KDP is now actually setting up a checkpoint on this road is interpreted in the region as an insistence on further provocations.
