The invading Turkish army continues its aerial and ground bombardment of the guerrilla-held Medya Defense Zones in southern Kurdistan (northern Iraq) despite the PKK having ceased fire on March 1.

Despite a ceasefire declared unilaterally by the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), the Turkish army continues to escalate their attacks on the guerrilla-held Medya Defense Zones in southern Kurdistan (northern Iraq). According to the HPG balance sheet for March, the Turkish army carried out a total of 11,585 air and ground attacks against the guerrilla areas in northern Iraq last month. On April 7, two guerrillas were martyred in the Çirav area in Garê region as a result of two bombardments carried out by an UCAV of the occupying Turkish army. On April 11, two guerrillas were martyred as a result of Turkish attacks with chemical weapons and banned explosives in the Zap region.

The press center of the People's Defense Forces (HPG) announced that the occupying Turkish army continued to target guerrilla areas.

The statement released by the HPG Press Liaison Center on Thursday includes the following details:

"Attacks by warplanes and helicopters

On May 6, 7, and 8, the Girê Bahar Resistance Area in the Şehîd Delîl Western Zap region was bombed twice, and the Girê Kun, Kanî Sarkê, and Girê Sîser areas in the Garê region were bombed five times by warplanes.

On May 7, the Girê Bahar Resistance Area in the Şehîd Delîl Western Zap region was bombed twice by attack helicopters.

Attacks with heavy weapons, artillery and howitzers

On May 5, 6, and 7, the Turkish army carried out a total of 765 attacks with heavy weapons, artillery, and howitzers, targeting the areas of Berê Zînê, Şehîd Şerîf and Sinînê in Xakurkê region 23 times; the areas of Yekmalê, Zêvkê, Mijê, Girgaşê, Girê Kun, Dêreşê, Deşta Kafya and Girê Sîser in Garê region 124 times; the areas of Dergelê, Şêlazê and Bêşîlî in Metîna region 154 times; the areas of Girê Amediyê and Girê Bahar in Şehîd Delîl Western Zap region 464 times.

Interventions by our forces against attacks

On May 6, guerrillas hit the invaders in an attack position in the Bazê Resistance Area in Metîna region.

On May 6, invaders who attacked our tunnels in the Dergelê Resistance Area in Metîna region with explosive-laden drones and called for surrender were responded to with semi-automatic weapons."
