Father and son fighting together in YBŞ in Sinjar

Members of Yazidi families in Sinjar are fighting shoulder to shoulder to protect their land and belief against ISIS attacks going on since early August 2014.

A father and son from the village of Xana Sor, who turned back to Sinjar after taking refuge in Rojava Kurdistan, are fighting at the same front.

Abbas Abdila Dilbo and his son joined the Sinjar Defense Units (YBŞ) after turning back to Sinune town in South Kurdistan back from Rojava where they first took shelter when ISIS attacks first began. After staying in the Yazidi village of Chelka in Rojava Kurdistan for six months, the father and son turned back to Sinjar to join the fight against inhumane ISIS gangs.

YBŞ fighter Dilbo describes the protection of their sacred values and lands as a matter of honour, continuing as follows; "Me and my son joined the YBŞ soon after the return. The Yazidism is of great importance and a source of pride to us. We are fighting for our sacred Mount Sinjar."

Dilbo states that he and his son are now two comrades in YBŞ ranks, and that their efforts will contribute to the liberation of the Yazidi girls and women still in ISIS captivity.

The father tells that; "Yazidis have united and are defending themselves now. We can fight for ourselves, it is just a little help we ask from our comrades in order for us to defend and rule ourselves."

Regarding the founding of the Sinjar Yazidis' Assembly, Dilbbo says; "Thank God, our government has been founded and the YBŞ is continuing the fight to liberate Sinjar. Neither ISIS nor any other power will be able to lay a hand on us. We have faced 73 decrees issued against us so far, but we will not allow the 74th one."

The son, Abdullah Abbas, recalls that he and his father joined the YBŞ after completing their training, and points out that they are now not a father and son, but two comrades fighting together for the same cause.

YBŞ fighter Abbas tells that; “We joined the YBŞ to protect our honour and mountain. We will not allow anyone to lay their dirty hands on us any more, nor to intervene in our internal affairs. We have faced an ordinance during the Saddam rule, and one other during the Party (PDK) rule, but this will not happen once again. We are we under the rule of anyone, nor will we surrender to anyone else. The YBŞ has been growing more and more with the increasing participation of Sinjar youths and people."

Putting emphasis on the importance of giving a fight together with his father, the YBŞ fighter says; "He used to be my father, and I used to be his son at home but we are comrades fighting in a military order now. This is a quite precious feeling, we are proud of it."
