Öcalan’s lawyer meets with CPT officials in Strasbourg

Lawyer Cengiz Yürekli met with the officials of the CPT in Strasbourg. "We conveyed to them the seriousness of the situation and our expectations," Yürekli said.

Cengiz Yürekli, one of the lawyers of Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan, met with the officials of the Council of Europe’s Committee for the Prevention of Torture (CPT) at their headquarters in Strasbourg. The meeting highlighted the situation of Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan, from whom no news has been received for 40 months.

Making a statement after the meeting, Yürekli said that he asked the CPT to visit İmralı and to make satisfactory statements to the public.

Lawyer Yürekli shared the following information about the meeting:

"We had a meeting with the CPT officials. We had already submitted all our reports to them before and put emphasis on the recent developments again and again. But this time we also had the chance to express them verbally.

We conveyed to them the seriousness of the situation and our expectations. We also received their views. We learned what kind of efforts they are making. We also asked them to share the information they have with us and we expressed our serious concerns.

We requested them to visit İmralı as a delegation again as soon as possible and to make a satisfactory statement both to us and to the public. We repeatedly emphasised that the current 40-month state of incommunicado is unacceptable. They stated that they agreed with our concerns, and that they would make the necessary efforts for this."
