Teko-JIN activists take over Freedom for Öcalan Vigil in Strasbourg

The Freedom for Öcalan Vigil in Strasbourg was taken over by Teko-JIN women in its 508th week. Women said their " struggle will ensure Leader Apo's freedom."

The Freedom for Abdullah Öcalan Vigil started on 25 June 2012 in Strasbourg, to ensure the physical freedom of Kurdish people's leader Abdullah Öcalan and to break the absolute isolation imposed on him.

In its 508th week, women members of Jinên Ciwanên Tekoşer (Teko-JIN) took over the vigil, carried out where several European institutions are located, and is taken over by a different group of Kurdish people and their friends every week. This week the group includes Şitîl Kaya, Zîlan Sertur, Azime Acar and Sara Avaşîn.

Making a statement on behalf of the group, Azime Acar said: "As Teko-JIN members, we took over this week's vigil in order to ensure the freedom of Leader Apo [Abdullah Öcalan]."

Celebrating the Newroz Day of all peoples, beliefs and the oppressed, especially the Kurdish people, who are fighting for their freedom, Azime Acar pointed out that Newroz is the day of resistance and resurrection, and said: "We are celebrating the Newroz of Leader Apo and the guerrillas."

Azime Acar said: “The guarantee of our freedom as young women is the freedom of our Leader. We women's struggle will continue until the freedom of our leader is ensured.”

Azime Acar called for all Kurdish people to join the struggle, saying that "the vigil is also a representation of our Leader's struggle."
