YouTube blocks channel of Kurdish Documentary Commune

The YouTube channel of Martyr Gülistan Tara Documentary Commune has been blocked after publishing a series about the Kurdish freedom movement.

The official channel of the docuseries ‘Kurdish Resurrection’, which covers the history of the PKK, has encountered new obstacles. YouTube has blocked the series' official channel, thereby blocking access to its content due to an alleged “violation of the guidelines on criminal organizations that promote violence.” The producer of the series, the Martyr Gülistan Tara Documentary Commune, considers the move an act of censorship.

The series, which is characterized by its documentary presentation of contemporary accounts, historical documents, and visual material, faced restrictions and attacks shortly after its launch. In a statement, the documentary team sharply criticized the ban, saying: “Narratives about contemporary historical events and the presentation of archival material are being declared criminal offenses. This hinders our efforts to provide an objective and historically accurate account.”

Despite the ban, the series remains accessible. It is currently being broadcast on Stêrk TV and Medya Haber TV, as well as on a specially created Telegram channel. In addition, the documentary collective announced that it will soon launch its own website where all episodes of the series will be available. “We will not be discouraged by the blocking of the YouTube channel and will continue our work to make the history of the Kurdish resistance visible,” the commune said.
