The Youth Assembly of the People's Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) has launched a new campaign with the slogan “We Insist on Socialist Life, We Organize with Free Leadership.” The campaign was announced at a press conference at the DEM Party Headquarters in Ankara.
The statement was read by Avesta Ateş in Kurdish, and by İsa Özgen in Turkish.
Abdullah Öcalan’s February 27 Call for Peace and a Democratic Society was met with excitement and hope in the Middle East, Turkey, and Kurdistan, Özgen said, “Following the February 27 call, millions of people filled the streets on March 8 and on March 21, clearly expressing their support for the call and for Mr. Öcalan's role as an interlocutor, leaving no room for doubt or debate. The energy of the youth on the streets transformed into a physical political, revolutionary, and patriotic movement during the Amara March between April 1 and 4. The youth marched from Amed to Amara, achieving what had been impossible for many years. In every city, every street, and every home they visited, they were eagerly awaited by mothers, women, and young people who had been eagerly awaiting them, embracing them with open arms. This action has elevated the existing hopes for an honorable life to a higher level. Everyone who witnessed the revival of Bakur's youth is filled with the feelings of this awakening, has rediscovered its revolutionary identity, and has taken another step closer to the warmth of an honorable, free life.”
Özgen pointed out that the Amara March declared to friends and foes alike that the youth of Turkey and Kurdistan are marching side by side and insisting on a democratic Turkey and an autonomous Kurdistan. He emphasized that women and youth will lead the way for peoples to live together, and that this march will continue until peoples achieve a democratic Middle East Confederation.
‘This is a process of construction’
“While the destructive attacks of capitalist modernity seek to annihilate our peoples culturally, socially, and politically, we are weaving our own alternative life with our own strength,” Özgen continued. "This is a process of construction. This process is the embodiment of a truth rising on the foundations of women's freedom, ecological life, and democratic society. Therefore, the new will to live emerging in these lands is not merely a political stance but also a cultural revival and a social rebirth. In every street, every neighborhood, every home, we are here to strengthen the solidarity of ancient peoples and the new path of life developing under women's leadership. And we know that this struggle is not just for a select few; it is the common struggle of everyone who seeks justice, freedom, and equality.”
‘We will channel the energy generated into organizational structures’
Özgen further stated: “In this context, with our revolutionary and patriotic sense of responsibility, we, the Dem Party Youth Assembly, are announcing our campaign, ‘We Insist on Socialist Life, We Organize with Free Leadership.’ Within the scope of this campaign, our primary objective will be to expand our organizational efforts across all cities in Turkey and Kurdistan, as well as to broaden our practical and ideological framework and disseminate it everywhere. As part of this campaign, we will organize youth gatherings and educational workshops in cities and channel the energy generated into organizational structures.”
‘An important starting point in our journey toward an organized democratic society’
Our campaign will begin today with actions and planning in many cities across Turkey and Kurdistan. Our campaign will be an important starting point in our journey toward an organized democratic society. We call on all revolutionary and patriotic youth in Turkey and Kurdistan to join our campaign and fight for a socialist life and freedom!”
