Arrest demand for participants of the campaign for press freedom

Prof. Şebnem Korur Fincancı, journalist Erol Önderoğlu and writer Ahmet Nesin were referred to a court for participating in a campaign in solidarity with pro-Kurdish Özgür Gündem daily.

Prof. Şebnem Korur Fincancı, journalist Erol Önderoğlu and writer Ahmet Nesin testified at Istanbul Courthouse today in relation with an investigation launched against them for participating in the 'Editor-in-Chiefs On Watch' campaign to show solidarity with pro-Kurdish Özgür Gündem daily and defend press freedom against pressures and investigations against journalists.

Following the testimony, Fincancı, Önderoğlu and Nesin were referred to the 1st High Court of Peace with a demand for their arrest within the scope of the investigation.

Dozens of people have supported the campaign launched on May 3 and probe has been launched against 37 of the participants on charge of “[illegal] organization propaganda”.
