Four journalists sent to prison

Four journalists who were taken into custody as part of an Artvin-based investigation have been sent to prison on charges of "membership in an illegal organization."

As part of an investigation centered in Artvin, four journalists who were taken into custody during home raids in Istanbul on 13 June were sent to prison on charges of "membership in an illegal organization." Seven people, including six journalists, were taken into custody and then transferred to Artvin.

During interrogations conducted on 14 June, the journalists were questioned about the software services they provided to news websites, the royalty payments they received for their articles, and their phone conversations. All these were used as the basis for the accusations.

After being held in custody for three days, the journalists were referred to court on Monday, 16 June. The prosecutor sent them to the criminal court of peace with a request for arrest.

Ozan Cırık, a staff member at Sendika.org, along with journalists Dicle Baştürk, Yavuz Akengin, and Eylem Emel Yılmaz, were remanded in custody on charges of "membership in an illegal organization."

Semra Melek and Melisa Efe were released under judicial control.
