Connor Hayes speaks with Jan Fermon, lead solicitor in the case in which the Belgium Court of Cassation ruled the PKK is not a terrorist organization. 

In this interview Jan Fermon, Secretary General of the International Association of Democratic Lawyers, spoke about the implications of the Belgian court ruling, the PKKs broader struggle for decriminalization, and the future of resistance in the war on terror era.

Jan Fermon is the Secretary General of the International Association of Democratic Lawyers. He has defended victims of genocide in Rwanda, victims of war crimes committed by US troops in Baghdad, and since the 1990’s, he has been defending Kurdish and progressive Turkish activists and organizations against both repression in Turkey and against criminalization in Europe.

Connor Hayes is a graduate student in sociology at the University of Cambridge. He is an activist, researcher, and a lover of philosophy. He was a member of the 2019 International Peace Delegation to Imrali.
