JinNews editor Safiye Alağaş was released from prison. She was greeted with flowers by her colleagues and said that she will continue her work as a Kurdish female journalist.
Alağaş, who was arrested on the charge of "member of a terrorist organization" on 16 June 2022 as part of the investigation launched by the Diyarbakır Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, was released on probation at the first hearing of the trial held on Thursday at the Diyarbakır 5th High Criminal Court.
'I will continue to do my job'
After the decision, Alağaş was released from Diyarbakır D Type Closed Prison. She was greeted by family and colleagues. Alağaş said: "I went to court a year after my arrest. At this trial, both women and Kurdish journalism were put on trial. This is a black stain on Turkey. I am both happy and very sad for the friends I left behind. Nobody deserves to be in prison. Their right to life is being taken away. I will continue my work as a free press and Kurdish woman journalist. I'm sure good days will come."
