KCK (Kurdistan Communities Union) Executive Council Co-president Bese Hozat said in an interview to ANF that the votes of Kurds in Europe would ensure the HDP pass the electoral threshold on 7 June.
She said the elections in Turkey were of great strategic importance. She added that the AKP was attacking the HDP because it was aware of the significance of these elections, and with the latest attacks on HDP offices in Adana and Mersin hoping to weaken the party.
HDP will end the AKP’s 13-year policy of war
Hozat added that a successful electoral performance by the HDP would bring to an end the hegemony of the AKP and speed up the process of democratisation.
Incitements foiled by sensitivity of the peoples
She added that the AKP and other system parties were trying to prevent the rise of the HDP by carrying out attacks and endeavouring to intimidate the people. "However, the sensitivity of society in Turkey and Kurdistan has foiled these attempts at incitement in Adana and Mersin, just as it did in Ağrı," she said.
Votes from Europe are key
Hozat said that voting in Europe ended on 31 May, and that voters living in Europe had a key role to play. "Everyone should use their vote, every vote is important," she added.
"In order for the HDP to exceed the threshold everyone should take their friends and relatives to the polling stations. This should be seen as a patriotic duty. Our people in Europe are struggling in difficult circumstances. In order to see a return for their toil they should use their vote," Hozat said.
Erdoğan wants to turn the Middle East into a sectarian bloodbath
Hozat said the elections had a huge significance for Alevis, as the current Turkish government's mentality is the same as ISIS. "This mentality has carried out its biggest massacres against Alevis and will continue to do so. Erdoğan wants to turn Kurdistan, Rojava, Syria and the entire Middle East into a sectarian bloodbath. Its alliance with ISIS is a great threat to everyone," she added.
Alevis must resist
Hozat said the Alevi community must resist the regime by taking ownership of the HDP and voting for the party at the elections. She called on the Alevis, patriotic people, democratic circles, women and young people in particular, and all those in favour of peace and justice to mobilise in support of the HDP.
