A high-ranking delegation from the Democratic Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (DAANES) went to Damascus today for official talks with the Syrian transitional government. The meeting was arranged through mediation by the US and France. As part of ongoing meetings and dialogue with the Syrian Interim Government, the DAANES delegation seeks to monitor the implementation of the agreement signed on March 10 between the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and the Syrian Interim Government.
In the presence of US Special Representative for Syria Thomas Barrack and French government representative Jean-Baptiste Faivre, Syria's self-proclaimed transitional president Ahmed al-Sharaa talked with the commander-in-chief of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), Mazlum Abdi, Ilham Ehmed, Co-Chair of the Foreign Relations Department of DAANES, Foza Yusif, Co-Chair of the North and East Syria Representatives Delegation, and Abid Hamid al-Mihbash, Co-Chair of the Future Syria Party.
The meeting is intended to continue efforts to clarify the relationship between the transitional government and the DAANES and to shape an inclusive future for Syria. In March, Abdi and Al-Sharaa signed an agreement to this effect, but its implementation has been repeatedly delayed. The agreement includes guaranteeing all constitutional rights of the Kurds and integrating North-East Syrian military and civilian institutions into the Syrian Government.
A further step in the rapprochement since March 10 was a meeting in Damascus on June 1, which resulted in the publication of a joint statement containing agreements on key points.
