Istanbul Forensic Medicine Institute has released the DNA test results of the bones of 18 people, nine PKK members and nine civilians, who were exhumed last January from two mass graves in Mutki (Bitlis). The bones, did not match the blood samples taken from 30 families who applied to the prosecutor hoping the bones belonged to their beloved. It is understood that the DNA proving negative, the bones will be taken back to Mutki and buried in the cemetery of the nameless. It was also reported that Mutki Prosecution Office already instructed municipal authorities to prepare the burial place.
A delegation of IHD (Human Rights Association) and BDP (Peace and Democracy Party) members met with municipal authorities and prosecutor of Mutki where they also made some remarks about the Cemetery of the Nameless.
BDP Güroymak District Chairman Ekrem Yalçýn, had applied to the IHD to search for the bones and the fate of his brother Muzaffer Yalçýn, a PKK member who lost his life in 1996. He was thought to be buried in the mass grave in Mutki from which the 18 remains had been exhumed. Güroymak told of the mass slaughter and burials of people in 1990s and said that it was another day of shame for humanity to re-bury 18 people who had been taken from a mass grave, "it is like killing them twice", he said. Güroymak also rose doubts as to the seriousness of the DNA test.
