European Union - Turkey Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC EU-) President Helene Flautre has stated that they support the negotiations between the PKK leader Abdullah Ocalan and the state. Remarking that a solution free from violence can only be reached through real talks with Ocalan, Flautre remarked that "These talks need to be continued in a deeper and stronger way to avoid further sufferings and pains".
Flautre was speaking to ANF and RojTv in an interview which will be broadcast by RojTv.
Flautre also added that "The issue now needs to be brought on the public agenda and all relevant actors should be included in the process to find a solution to the problem".
Turkey Joint Parliamentary Committee president then remarked that "dialogue should progress into a strong, consistent and definite decision in order to end a situation where people is resorting to arms. The solution to such a political problem - added Flautre - should not be found through arms and conflicts because democracy can't be developed and progressed with a gun barrel held on your head".
The Committee president further stated that it's time to "let history speak now. In this context, a decision should be made to focus entirely on political negotiations. This problem needs to be solved along with the public opinion in a political and democratic way. The talks need to be developed and satisfactory for all sides in order to tackle the Kurdish issue".
Flautre ended her remarks by saying that "It is time for a "global" solution to a problem which hurt and still hurts many people and made them experience terrible pains. In this phase, the responsibility of the issue should be taken by the authorities. It should be accepted that this problem cannot be solved in any way except for a political dialogue."
