Statue in Villeneuve Saint-Georges pays tribute to Kurdish and Iranian women

The city of Villeneuve Saint-Georges will pay tribute to Kurdish and Iranian women struggling, with a statue titled "Jin, Jiyan, Azadi - Woman, Life, Freedom" created by Sabri Cigerli.

The statue will be unveiled on Tuesday 27 June at 6 p.m. The event is open to all, and will see the presence of mayor Philippe Gaudin and the municipal councilor in charge of culture, Vanessa Tillé Forecourt.

Sabri Cigerli, Villeneuve city councilor, is also a talented artist. Of Kurdish origin, he was particularly affected by the revolt that has shaken Iran and Kurdistan for several months, and in particular by the death of a young Kurdish woman, Jina Mahsa Amini, beaten to death by the morality police in Tehran last September.

After having participated in several demonstrations in support of the Kurdish and Iranian peoples, Sabri Cigerli decided to get more involved by devoting himself to the creation of the sculpture.
