Nimet Akgün exercises her right to self-defense against domestic violence

Nimet Akgün, 75, lives in Bahçelerüstü in Mamak, Ankara. She killed 80-year-old Ali Akgün, who used violence against her and her disabled daughter, in an act of self-defense on Thursday night.

Nimet Akgün and her husband Ali Akgün started to argue for a reason that could not be established. The discussion turned heavy in a short time. It is understood that Nimet Akgün defended herself with a knife. Akgün was taken into custody after the incident.

Mor Solidarity published a message of solidarity with Akgün.

In the message titled "Self-Defense is a right" published on its social media account, Mor Solidarity said: "Women are forced to live in violent houses, impoverished and left helpless. On the other hand, male violence is legitimized. Free Melek Ipek and Nimet Akgün, who do not remain silent accepting violence and stood up to protect their lives! Stop male violence, not women!”
