January ends with 23 women killed and 14 dead in suspicious circumstances

According to the male violence report compiled by the We Will Stop Femicide Platform 23 women were murdered in January and 14 women died in suspicious circumstances.

The We Will Stop Femicide Platform (KCDP) published its report on male violence for the month of January 2021. The reports states that 23 women were killed and 14 women died in suspicious circumstance in the first month of the year.

Murdered by husbands and partners

According to the report, 7 women were murdered by their husband, 6 by their partner, 2 by a former partner, 2 by their relatives, one by a former husband, one by her father, one by her son. Who killed three of the women could not be established.

According to KCDP's data, 16 of the women were murdered at home, two in the middle of the street, one in a car, one in a field, one in a deserted place and one in the hotel. It could not be established where one of the women was killed.

The reason why 16 of the 23 women were killed could not be established. 5 women were murdered for wanting to divorce, refusing to reconcile, marry and enter in a relationship, and two of them were murdered for economic reasons.

In January, most women were murdered in Istanbul, said the KCDP report adding that 7 women were killed and 5 women died in suspicious circumstances in Istanbul.
