Women's Front calls for organisation and reconstruction of Shengal

On the 10th anniversary of the genocide against the Yazidis on 3 August 2014, the Women's Front in Southern Kurdistan (Northern Iraq) called for the liberation of women and the reconstruction of Shengal.

The South Kurdistan Women's Front made a statement on the 10th anniversary of the genocidal aggression of ISIS against Shengal (Sinjar) on 3 August 2014.

The statement noted that the mass slaughter in 2014 was the 74th genocide suffered by the Yazidi community in history. While thousands of Yazidi women were killed or captured, no adequate solution was found for their rescue, said the Women’s Front, adding that the YPG and YPJ have so far rescued many women and children kidnapped by ISIS ten years ago.

The statement pointed out that ISIS targeted the language, culture and life of the Yazidi people, but the dreams of ISIS, supported by the Turkish state, were frustrated by the Kurds.

Remarking that Shengal should be rebuilt with a self-governance system as attacks against the Yazidis continue, the statement called upon women to organise and increase their self-confidence.

Noting that the Yazidi resistance has frustrated the dirty plans for Shengal, the Women's Front said that they aim to establish a women's assembly in order to make the suffering of the women still in ISIS captivity heard in the international arena.
