Women prepare 1st May rally

Women from KESK, TTB, DİSK and TMMOB met in Ankara in order to define details for the May 1st rally, Workers’ Day.

Women from the Confederation of Public Workers Trade Unions (KESK), the Turkish TTB, the Confederation of Revolutionary Workers' Union (DİSK) and the Union of Turkish Engineers and Architects Chambers (TMMOB) met in Ankara in order to define details for the May 1st rally, Workers’ Day.

A large number of women joined the meeting, including political party and trade unionists, like Ayse Acar Başaran, HDP Batman deputy and vice chairman.

Nevin Kızılöz, Secretary General Emekli Sen, read the final statement on behalf of women.

She stated that women will be on the streets on May 1st for labor, equality, justice, secularism and peace and added: "We will be on the streets on May 1st to make women's labor visible and to speak out against the precarious employment of women."

Nevin Kızılöz emphasized that the slogan this year will be "We are souls, bodies, identities, we are” against violence, abuse, ignorance.

"Women who fight for freedom and peace will speak out on May 1st. We will continue to pursue our organized struggle against those who try to destroy equality and want to make our labor invisible. Together we are strong, together we will succeed."

HDP Batman deputy Ayse Acar Başaran emphasized that the biggest workers are women who are not seen and ignored, "We believe that when women come together, fight a united struggle and reclaim their woman identity, they will bring equality, peace and democracy. We shall win”, she said.
