Women journalists visited Leyla Güven

A group of women journalists visited Leyla Güven on day 108 of her hunger strike against isolation. The journalists reacted to the media general silence, saying that “remaining silent about this resistance is remaining silent to humanity.”

Mesopotamia Women Journalists Platform visited the DTK co-chair and HDP Hakkari MP Leyla Güven at her house to support her hunger strike against the isolation of Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan.

After the visit the journalists held a press conference in front of Güven’s house.

Speaking of behalf of the Mesopotamia Women Journalists Platform, Ayse Güney said that the visit was very meaningful and emotional for them.

Warning about the ‘critical stage’ reached

Güven's hunger strike has reached the most critical stage, said Güney who added: "Leyla Güven looked so tired and exhausted and yet in good spirit, strong and determined.

Leyla Güven once again emphasized her determination to continue this action until reaching her goal. Leyla called on all journalists to become her voice. We, members of the Mesopotamia Women Journalists Platform declare once more that we will be Leyla’s voice.”

Güney said: “This resistance is not only for the Kurdish people but for the peoples of Turkey and the entire Middle East. It is a resistance for peace. Because the isolation imposed on PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan is an isolation imposed on the whole society and above all on women.”

Reaction to media silence

Reacting to the silence of the AKP-linked media, Güney said: "We are condemning the media playing 3 monkeys when it comes to report about this action heard by the whole world."

Güney added: “There are media manipulating the news. And we are condemning this type of news.”

Güney ended her remarks by reminding that together with Leyla Güven over 300 prisoners and activists around the world are on hunger strike. “Remaining silent about this resistance - said Güney - is remaining silent to humanity.”
