Two pioneers in search of truth: Delal and Zîlan

In the person of Martyrs Delal and Zîlan, the self-sacrificial spirit of Kurdish women has gained a historic meaning and grown. They became not just names, but pioneers, freedom fighters, representatives of the spirit of self-sacrifice.

The self-sacrificial spirit, which was left without an identity for many years and deprived of its history and culture, comes to life again with the philosophy of Abdullah Öcalan. Hearts dedicated to freedom once again leave their mark on history and carry the legacy of the self-sacrifice into the future. In an endless quest for freedom, they create a reality of a people that renews itself by melting into the truth. Those who march at the forefront of this people are the freedom guerrillas. Kurdish women's courage and leadership in the struggle became a symbol within the Freedom Movement and an example for the whole world. The struggle of the Kurdistan Freedom Guerrilla is growing more and more, especially under the leadership of the YJA Star (Free Women’s Troops) guerrillas. In the person of Delal and Zîlan, the self-sacrificial spirit of Kurdish women has gained a historic meaning and grown. They have become not just names, but pioneers, freedom fighters, representatives of the spirit of sacrifice.

Their love for their country was ingrained in their hearts and consciousness. Their passion for freedom bound them more firmly to the struggle. Those who followed in Zîlan and Delal's footsteps resisted with the same determination in every breath to keep their struggle alive. Every action they took part in, every struggle they waged became an epic. They overcame all the difficulties on the path to freedom, broke all the limits imposed by the system and pioneered the resistance. Without doubt, without hesitation, despite all kinds of difficult conditions, they saw freedom as the only true path and continued on their way without any obstacles. They walked the path of freedom with courage and consciousness. Their love and hope for victory remained alive in their hearts. That is why, in their march for freedom, they carried the traces of epic heroes like Edule and Derwêş. Their struggle became a historical legacy. With this consciousness, they have always existed in the light of truth.

Zîlan and Delal were two pioneers who kept the spirit of the freedom movement and true comradeship alive. They, Ronahî and Bêrîvan, are the names that revitalize the legacy of Ruken and Sara today. They showed with their practices how women can strengthen each other in the struggle for freedom and became symbols of free women's identity. They further increased their faith and determination to struggle against the genocidal and occupying mentality. Even in the most difficult moments of the resistance, they succumbed neither to fear nor to the enemy's tricks. Delal and Zîlan were not only fighters, but they also represented the identity of free women. The enemy has always used surrender and betrayal as a war tactic to suppress the freedom movement. But the militants of the Freedom Movement never accepted surrender and betrayal. The culture of resistance has never lost its spirit and today it has reached the highest level in the person of Delal and Zîlan.

During an operation in the Heftanîn region on January 24, 2025, these two brave women sacrificed their lives to the struggle for freedom by detonating bombs on their bodies in order to avoid being captured alive by the enemy. This became the epic of those who chose resistance to the end on the path to freedom. Today, history is writing epics of heroism in their spirit of self-sacrifice. These two heroic fighters sacrificed their lives for the freedom of their people and their country. They knew that even if they did not see a free tomorrow, they would become legends in Kurdistan and would never be forgotten.
