TJA activist detained in Kobane investigation

The activist was detained in Istanbul and taken to Ankara on Wednesday.

Zeynep Ölbesi, an activist of the Free Women’s Movement (TJA) has been taken into custody in Istanbul after having had her apartment stormed by the police this morning.

Ölbesi was reportedly detained in the scope of the so-called “Kobane investigation” and was taken to Ankara where the investigation was launched by the Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office.

In a statement denouncing the arrest, TJA said: “Our friend Zeynep is a politician and a women’s rights activist. While those men who murder women and ruin their lives are released from prison on daily basis, the arrest of those women who struggle for freedom has no legitimacy in our eyes. Long live the women’s struggle, long live our resistance.”
