Third Women’s Council opened in Raqqa

It is the third office of this kind to be opened in the Raqqa city to promote the role of free women in free society.

The Women's Bureau of the Raqqa Civil Council has opened the third of their Women’s Council in the Bedo neighborhood.

The new building responds to the demand of organisation and initiative carried out by the Women’s Bureau of the Raqqa Autonomous Administration.

The opening ceremony was attended by Syrian Democratic Council (MSD), Syrian Free Women's Council and Raqqa Administration representatives.

Members of Tabqa Democratic Civil Administration Women's Office, Deir ez-Zor Women's Council and Manbij Civil Administration Women's Bureau were also present as were hundreds of Raqqa citizens.

The ceremony started with a minute silence. Then, MSD Ayn Isa executive Ilham Umer said: "The role of women in the construction and organization of free society is crucial. Which is why DAESH mercenaries are unleashing their most violent policies against women. Women should step up their struggle”.

MSD spokesperson Lîna Berekat said: "Free women are the foundation of a free society. As women, we must actively play our part in building a new, democratic and decentralized Syria".

Feyruz Xelî, member of Raqqa Civil Council Women's Affairs Bureau, said: "We intend to make women's organization activities even stronger in order to actively promote the role of women in the Democratic Northern Syria project”.

This work, she said, should be done “through the building of women's councils in Raqqa. Women should be involved in all areas of life and obtain their legitimate rights”.

Following the speeches, the opening ribbon of the new council building was cut by Feyruz Xelî herself.

The celebration was followed by a program of activities.

Previously, Raqqa Civil Women's Bureau had opened Women's Council buildings in the neighborhoods of Rimêla and Xinêzat.
