The Hawl Camp was set up on March 9, 2016 along the Syria-Iraq border for people who were forced to leave their lands due to barbaric gang attacks. The camp is 30 km to the east of Hesekê. Several communes and assemblies were set up under the lead of TEV-DEM to supply services to camp residents.

The Rojava Free Women’s Foundation and Kongreya Star launched several efforts for the organization of women in the camp. The women started to take part in the communes and assemblies as part of the efforts. The Free Women’s Foundation held several training programs and seminars to eliminate the patriarchal mindset.

Women’s organizations also implement several efforts for the health of women in the camp in cooperation with Heyva Sor a Kurd, and 60 women completed the medical training program in the camp and received their certificates, which allow them to work in medical institutions in Syria and Iraq. A further 60 women have completed a tailoring course.

Free Women’s Foundation Administrator Yesmîn Osman stressed that the efforts for the organization and support of women in the camp will continue. Yesmîn said the women in the camp were affected by the fear the ISIS gangs created and that the training they provide overcomes that.

An Iraqi migrant named Suhad Abdullah said she built her own life with the trainings she completed. Another migrant named Udeye Abdulcebar said she completed the tailoring training and started to provide for her family.
