Raqqan women step into freedom from slavery

Raqqan women’s lives had been hell during the ISIS invasion, but now they are taking part in every institution and organization in the city to make their own paths.

The second general assembly of the Raqqa Civilian Council ended yesterday with the election of Executive and Legislative Council Co-chairs, while Raqqan women participating in the election, increasing organization and taking part in the construction of the city was the talk of the town.

FROM HELL, BACK TO LIFE

During the ISIS invasion, Raqqan women’s lives had been made hell and they had been confined to the home under pressure from religion and the regressive ideologies in society. After Raqqa was taken from ISIS gangs and liberated, life returned to the region and women took back their rights. Women now take part in all institutions of Raqqa, and make their own paths to follow.

In the Raqqan Civilian Council meeting held in the city yesterday, Nadiya Al Hamade was elected Co-chair and Xezne Îbrahîm was elected Deputy Co-chair for the Legislative Council, while Leyla Mustefa was elected Co-chair for the Executive Council.

“I WILL BE THE VOICE OF ALL WOMEN”

Nadiya Al Hamade spoke to ANHA and said the rights of Syrian women were stolen from them, but they took their place within the SDF and YPJ and have reclaimed their rights.

Al Hamade said women are the foundation of the society and that she will play her leading role to be the voice of all women.

“WE WILL EMANCIPATE SOCIETY”

Xezne Îbrahîm asked all women to play their part in creating the free society and added: “SDF has emancipated us. We will continue this emancipation. We will rescue and emancipate society from the hegemony and dictatorship and emancipate.”
