The Democratic Union Party (PYD) Women's Council issued a written statement for Ebru Timtik, who lost her life on the 238th day of the death fast demanding a fair trial.
The PYD statement said that the AKP-led Turkish state is the biggest representative of terrorism in its domestic and foreign politics. “All the institutions of the Turkish state have turned into a center of repression. Women in Turkey have led the resistance against this repression. The AKP has responded to the resistance by imprisoning many sectors of the society and especially women. The AKP is trying to hide the crisis in the country behind the attacks against Syria and Medya Defense Areas, the war in Libya, the quarrel with Greece and Cyprus.”
The statement remarked that many women such as Ebru Timtik have stepped up the resistance against the AKP. “Although Ebru Timtik was in poor health due to the death fast and despite the reports stating she could not stay in jail, her demands were not fulfilled. At the end of the 238th day, she lost her life, a price in the resistance she started for justice against the patriarchal mentality. She joined the caravan of martyrs."
The statement pointed out that the history of the Turkish state is full of crimes against women. “The Turkish state led by the AKP is the main supporter of ISIS. The massacre in the village of Helinc [in which three women activists were killed], the murder of Hevrin Xelef, the Secretary General of the Syrian Future Party, and the crimes committed against women in Afrin, are a clear evidence of this.”
The PYD also underlined that "the silence of the international community about the AKP's practices will open the door to greater dangers."
