A woman in Şırnak’s İdil district, who was 8 months pregnant, was taken to the district hospital after going into labour. However, there was no medical specialist at the hospital, so the pregnant woman's relatives had her transferred to Cizre State Hospital. The woman was taken into intensive care unit but was not intervened as the gynaecologist was on holiday leave.
Suffering heavy bleeding in the meantime, the woman lost her life together with her unborn baby not long after.
There is a huge lack of doctors and health personnel in Şırnak and its districts, which have a population of 500 thousand people.
According to the Ministry of Health appointment system, there are only 3 gynaecologists on duty in the region.
