Mother Taybet commemorated where she was killed

Mother Taybet, one of the symbolic figures of the self-government resistance, was commemorated in Silopi on the 5th year of her murder.

Free Women's Movement (Tevgera Jinên Azad, TJA) commemorated Taybet Inan (Mother Taybet), who was murdered by snipers of the Turkish army on December 19, 2015 during the self-government resistance in Silopi district of Şırnak, at the 5th anniversary of her murder.

Democratic Society Congress (DTK) co-chair Leyla Güven, Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) Şırnak MP Nuran İmir, TJA activists, members of HDP Şırnak provincial and district organizations, Şırnak Peace Mothers Initiative and many others attended the commemoration. The crowd gathered in Nur neighborhood and marched to where Mother Taybet was murdered.

"WHEN SİLOPİ IS MENTIONED, MOTHER TAYBET, SÊVÊ, PAKİZE AND FATMA COME TO MIND”

Speaking after a minute of silence for Mother Taybet, DTK co-chair Leyla Güven said that the street where Taybet Inan was murdered is never forgotten, for which the Kurdish people still mourn. Güven said that when Silopi is mentioned Seve, Pakize and Fatma come to mind in the person of Mother Taybet and added; "I remember with respect those who lost their lives in Silopi. Mother Taybet had a resistant personality and those who fear this resistance killed her. Those who killed Mother Taybet wanted to give a message to society. They wanted women to stay at home. We have seen this in the case of Ekin Wan before. We saw Mother Taybet’s lifeless body left in the middle of the street for 7 days and 7 nights. We promise Mother Taybet and the other martyrs that we will follow your path. Just as Mother Taybet was left in the middle of the street for 7 days, we suffered the same pain, too.”

“WE WILL NOT FORGET”

Emphasizing that those who killed Mother Taybet will be held to account, Güven noted that there are Kurdish massacres everywhere and Kurds are made subject to these massacres. She continued: "There is a massacre in our lands and this concerns not only Kurds but also other peoples. We will not forget this incident and we will not let it be forgotten. We will take up this incident. We will continue to resist. On this occasion, I give my condolences to her family and all the Kurdish people."

"TO RESIST FASCISM MEANS TO EXIST"

Speaking afterwards, HDP member Nuran İmir remembered those who lost their lives in the person of Mother Taybet; "For five years, justice has remained on the streets of Silopi. We, as the HDP, will continue to fight against misogynist policies. No matter what, we will not forget the savagery. We say that to live is to resist fascism and massacre.”

The commemoration ended with the crowd leaving carnations on the place where Mother Taybet was murdered, and later a condolence visit to her home.
