Mother of three arrested on terror charges in Batman

Menice İş from Batman was sentenced earlier this year to almost four years in prison for her participation in the 2011 Newroz celebration. After the execution of the sentence was delayed for six months, she has been imprisoned today.

Menice İş was taken into custody in a brawl that broke out during the march after the Newroz celebration in Batman on 20 March 2011. She was released by the court after giving her statement to the police and prosecutor’s office.

Subjected to judicial process, the woman was later sentenced to 3 years and 9 months in prison by the Batman 1st High Criminal Court for allegedly "committing a crime on behalf of a terrorist organization without being a member". After her prison sentence was upheld by the higher courts, the woman was detained during a home raid 6 months ago, but her sentence was delayed for 6 months because her kid was still a baby.

İş, who was detained again during a raid on her house on December 4, has been remanded in custody and sent to Batman Type M Prison after appearing in court today.

It is reported that the woman, mother of 3 children, the youngest of whom is 1 year old, has a chronic heart disease.
