The KJK (Kurdistan Women's Community) released a statement about the elections held on 24 June in Turkey and North Kurdistan.

“The 24 June elections were a new turning point and carry with them serious consequences as to democratic politics”, the statement said.

“Clearly after the 24 June elections women have a responsibility to increase revolutionary process which has brought about the construction of freedom and democracy for women in the 21st century.”

The statement insisted that “democratic politics and democracy have won against fascism. The winners have been women who insist on freedom. The winner has been the paradigm of freedom brought about by leader Abdullah Ocalan. The winners are the democratic nation and the people and women who walked assertively towards the free life.”

Pointing out that President Erdogan has won once again thanks to terrorist activities, blackmail, killing, frauds, irregularities, the statement added: “Erdogan has suffered a great loss of votes. One of the strategic goals of this election was to leave HDP under the threshold. This has not been achieved.”

Celebrating the election of women deputies with the HDP, the KJK said it believes that “they will play their roles more actively in the parliament, which is an important part of the women's freedom struggle. We call on the women deputies of all political parties to fight male ideology of fascism and nationalism and to unite our aspiration to freedom as women and to struggle together for the establishment of a democratic and free life.”

Recalling the repression of the AKP and its policies against women and their institutions, the statement continued:

“Hundreds of thousands of Kurdish women were displaced, hundreds of women were slaughtered, and thousands were arrested. But the success of the HDP has shown fascism that it won’t easily erase what has been achieved. The HDP has a great democratic political experience. The increasing fascist attack is expected to complete the genocide plan by occupying other parts of Kurdistan. Against this, - the statement ended - the struggle of women and peoples should be organised even further. We will be able to wipe out the genocide plan with organized women and society.”
