Koçerin was rescued from ISIS and then joined the ranks of the YPJ, and now she is part of the Operation Cizire Storm. Koçerin says she took a step out of a dark world into the light, and calls on all women to join the ranks of the YPJ.
YPG and YPJ fighters built their own system in Rojava after the civil war broke out in Syria in 2011 and have given hope to other peoples against tyranny. They have displayed a relentless struggle against the ISIS massacres and created a legendary resistance.
The whole world saluted the struggle of the women who took their place in the foremost ranks of the YPJ to fight against ISIS gangs. Many civilians enslaved by ISIS gangs have been given their freedom back by YPG and YPJ fighters, while many residential areas have been cleared of ISIS gangs. And now, the operations launched to liberate Raqqa and Deir ez-Zor cities continue with intense clashes.
“I STEPPED OUT OF THE DARK AND INTO THE LIGHT”
Koçerin Azadi joined the YPJ for women’s freedom and is on the frontlines in the Operation Cizire Storm launched for Deir ez-Zor. Koçerin stressed that the limits the patriarchal system has set for women have enslaved women for thousands of years, and that women are seen as commodities in society. She stated that in Arab society, women’s labor is invisible, and added: “After I joined the ranks of the YPJ, it was like I stepped out of a dark world and into the light.”
“WOMEN SHOULD JOIN THE YPJ”
The YPJ fighter said she was captured by ISIS gangs along with her family and that she witnessed all the atrocities the ISIS gangs imposed upon the women. Koçerin said she joined the ranks of the YPJ after she was freed from enslavement and continued: “All women can join the ranks of the YPJ to see their own identity and reality. The goal of our struggle is to bring all women together with their free identities and liberate them. To come together with the taste and color of freedom, all women should join the ranks of the YPJ.”
Koçerin concluded her words with: “All women will come together against ISIS invasion and tyranny and refuse enslavement. We will continue our struggle until there are no women left. The women we have liberated should protect their own will, and take their place in the Operation Cizire Storm. We have made a promise to our martyred friends, we will grow their hopes in these lands.”
